August: Beach Vacation!

So, the four of us were able to escape during the month of August to the beach!  We found a great rate on the World Mark Resort in Depoe Bay on craigslist.  Of course, craigslist!  Everything a frugal family needs is on there: kitchen remodeling supplies, pets, vehicles, vacations; we may be a bit fanatical! ( :  N-E-Ways, back to our wonderful, relaxing vacation days.  Babies stayed with another family for our four day retreat.
There was a gas fireplace in our room.  Jonathan had the kids convinced they could turn it on and off by blowing on it really hard. ( :
The kids had a BLAST swimming in the pools and having a room and bathroom with their own TV!  Both enjoyed our soaking tub with jets as well.

While visiting the coast it's a tradition to eat at Mo's and Pig 'n' Pancake.

We did forget to hit the beach either.  In Depoe Bay we went to the surfriders beach and "hunted" for little crabs in the rocks and looked for sea creatures in tide pools.

In Lincoln city, the kids tried their hand at building sandcastles.  This sands too wet, this sands too dry, this sand is.... ...oh, look at that over there (castle forgotten).  ( :
On our way home we stopped at cannon beach.  The kids (with help from Dad) played in the waves and water.  More castle building attempts were made.  And of course, we had to walk to "Haystack Rock" we do live in the Northwest after all.

Finally, we visited "Camp 18".  Also, where Jonathan and I had our first unofficial date ( ; The kids enjoyed seeing all the old logging equipment.  They have also recently finished a loggers memorial museum, it was nicely done.

Then it was back to day to day life!  And getting ready for school!
Though we did try "Dragon Fruit" this month.  Totally disappointed!  Tasted like a bland Kiwi... ...oh well, a memory anyway.
